INSIDE THE BOOK

About this book

WebGL Compute explores how to repurpose WebGL’s graphics‑focused pipeline for high‑performance computation. By leveraging GLSL ES shaders, readers learn how to run massively parallel workloads directly on the GPU using nothing more than a web browser. The book walks through practical techniques, minimal examples, and creative strategies for performing non‑graphical tasks such as simulation, data processing, and algorithm acceleration. Ideal for developers, researchers, and enthusiasts who want to push WebGL beyond rendering and tap into the hidden compute power available on virtually every device.

The best book on this subject I have read

Exactly the book I needed. Straight to the point and genuinely useful.

I have been working with gpu computing for a few years now and I still found plenty here that was new to me. A couple of chapters felt like they could have been merged, but that is a minor complaint. There is a section near the end that ties several earlier ideas together in a way I had not seen before. I have already recommended it to two colleagues and will recommend it to more.

Decent, but uneven

Some sections were excellent and others felt like filler.

I have been working with gpu computing for a few years now and I still found plenty here that was new to me. I found myself making notes in the margins, which is always a good sign. The chapters on gpu computing are the strongest — the examples are stripped down but complete, and I could follow along without constant guessing. Borrow it first if you can, or at least check the table of contents carefully before buying.

Good, with realistic expectations

Well worth picking up if you already have the basics.

I have been working with gpu computing for a few years now and I still found plenty here that was new to me. The book rewards careful reading. Skimming it would be a mistake. I particularly liked the way the author builds up from simple cases before introducing the harder material. The exercises at the end of each chapter are worth doing — they caught a few misconceptions I did not know I had. Four stars, and I suspect a second edition could easily push it to five.
